Paint Contamination
Galvanizing is a chemical reaction where zinc and perfectly clean steel react to form the coating. The steel surface must be totally clean for this to happen.
Paint contamination is a major headache for galvanizers as this must all be removed prior to our process starting.
Illustrated above are several common types of material with paint on them.
The paint has to be removed prior to galvanizing by either shotblasting, being ground off or chemically wiped down. This will then allow our acid pickling to clean your material and for the zinc to react to form the galvanized coating.
Unfortunately, this extra work is chargeable due to the time involved removing the paint as our process doesn’t remove it.
