Clearance

One of the most common problems encountered is insufficient clearance between bracket and drop bolt. As can be seen in the photo the zinc has sealed the gap between pin and plate preventing the pin from moving freely. If the gate is then to be powder coated there will be no chance of the drop bolt being free enough to function.
Tips For Ensuring Suitable Clearance Between Pin and Bracket
Ask yourself, can you see a gap between the bracket housing and drop bolt?
No? – The solution is a simple one. Leave around a 2mm to 3mm gap between bracket and bolt. Measure this evenly around the drop bolt. This allows for the zinc coating to be applied and for the drop bolt to move freely.
What to look for is a rattle fit.

So remember – shake, rattle and the pin will roll!
