Technical | Methods of Coating | Mechanical Zinc Plating

Process A cold process of tumbling components in a zinc dust where some adheres to the parts leaving a coating.
Stengths Good for small parts, coating conforms to surfaces of substrate. Threaded parts work reasonably well.
Weaknesses No metallurgical bond, zinc is mechanically adhered, and can flake off. Zinc is not continuous in nature.
Only suitable for small (under 100mm) parts. Rarely available.
Durability Dependent of thickness, but can give 5-10 years for small components.
Cost Rarely available, so more expensive, in region of £1000/tonne or £500 per sqm
Health and Safety Factory controlled (but a dirty process)
