Galvanize | Process

Prior to dipping the metal in molten zinc the metal goes through a six stage pre-treatment starting with de-greasing followed by rinsing & pickling in hydrochloric acid. Once pickled the metal goes through a further rinse followed by dipping in a tank of Ammonium Chloride & Zinc chloride which is heated to 60ºC. This "fluxing" leaves dissolved salts on the surface of the metal which will help to “wet” the steel components with zinc. The steel is then lowered slowly into the tank of molten zinc which is at about 450ºC. The resulting metallurgical reaction creates an alloy on the surface forming a corrosion protection layer on the steel. The steel is then quench cooled to aid the prevention of oxidizing & allow handling.
